We went to Miami back in December, just before Christmas… it helped get through the dark days. Interestingly, when it’s 80 degrees at 9:00 pm, you don’t bother to notice that it’s also the shortest day of the year. Another curious fact: Brazilian reggae is basically unavoidable in South Beach, and it has since become my winter-in-Maine soundtrack. Snow? -6 degrees? Wind? Just put on Ao Vivo (#NOFILTER) by Natiruts – recorded live in Rio last Christmas – and it all, all of it, goes away.
Once home, I decided it was a good idea to start painting flamingos, because there is nothing more ridiculous – or, perhaps, more joyful – than painting flamingos in winter, and in Maine.
